VAWT wind turbine testing update, Performance in stronger wind, Decision made on generator type, Rotor and stator to be created and made part of turbine
Testing continues on the VAWT design with success on the construction, mounting and performance in minimal wind speeds.
After watching and analysis a decision was made to drop the attached generator with a “gear” ratio of 6-7 to 1 to be replaced with a built in stator and rotor which will generate electricity at low wind speeds.
This will involve mounting a ring of permanent magnets along the perimeter and experimenting with copper wire windings (stators) configurations.
The video shows the VAWT spinning at wind speeds estimated at up to 10-12 mph.
More on the details forthcoming.
