Granny says:

“Waste not want not.”

“Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.”

Wisdom of the ages and a necessary philosophy for survival in our past…..and in the present.

And of course:

“Necessity is the mother of invention.”

which I embraced as a child.

Using a hammer and nails, building, creating, must be in my genetic code.

My maternal grandfather, in the 1920’s, cut down trees, milled the lumber and built his own house. I salvaged, recycled some of that lumber to repurpose it into picture frames and other items.

Some of the flooring from my great grandparents house was incorporated in my house, built in 1910, when it was renovated.

In those actions I saved some wood from the landfill, saved a part of their lives for posterity along with the stories, made my mom happy with a priceless gift of a picture frame made from the house she grew up in, saved a little money and quite frankly, received a priceless feeling of satisfaction for doing so.

Recycling, repurposing, reusing is something I have done all of my life and something I strongly believe in.

As the saying goes “Better late than never” this website was a long time coming, but living this concept all of my life, there is plenty of material waiting for the “pen” and sharing on the internet.

I will share plenty of my past and future projects and activities along with the wealth of knowledge of others.

My first recycling efforts involved salvaging wood scraps and nails from construction sites, straightening the nails and building projects like a 3 story tree house. It was pretty cool.

To earn money I searched for and retrieved many cola bottles for the deposit money. This kept them out of landfills and from littering the landscape.

The proverbial “light bulb” idea was planted.

Those bottles were “gold.”
